Kitten Rescue Mission

Fahim heard a distressed cry in his backyard, leading him to discover a tiny, trapped kitten between his fences. Despite challenges, he rescued the soiled, exhausted kitten using gloves and a trash grabber, bringing it inside for care. The day was filled with tension but ended on a rewarding note as the kitten, named Lulu, was cleaned, fed, and provided a safe space.

Kitten Rescue Mission

it started like a normal day with the usual routine: our four cats fed, coffee ready. everything felt ordinary until a strange sound drifted from the backyard. at first i thought it could be a bird or an animal making sounds. but there was this sadness in the cry that immediately set my heart racing.

heading outside, i scanned the backyard but saw nothing at first. our own usual yard stray cat was there, as always. a quick check of the neighbor’s yard yielded nothing either. i stayed there for a few minutes, but it was very hard to find where it’s coming.

the sound persisted, coming from the narrow space between our fences. squirrels, cats, possums, and raccoons love using this as a shortcut. the cry can be heard every time i stepped away from the fence. but when i went near the fence, the cries would stop indicating an animal could sense me near it. a wave of anxiety washed over me as i realized something could trapped within that gap. and i couldn’t shake the feeling of responsibility to help.

gloves, a hat, and long sleeves were quickly put on. a knife and flashlight felt like essential tools, ready to cut away branches if needed, just to get a glimpse of what was making that heartbreaking noise.

carefully cutting away branches, i still couldn’t see anything clearly. then, the crying returned louder than before. shining a flashlight through a small hole in the fence, near ground level, i saw two tiny eyes looking up at me. it was a kitten, soaked and covered in debris. my heart sank.

the gap was so small. my hand couldn’t even fit through it. i tried calling my father as i was thinking of cutting down the fence so at least my hand can fit through. after cutting it, it still felt impossible to reach through the hole with just my hand. a trash grabber was brought over, and attempts were made to gently guide the kitten. it proved incredibly difficult to get a good angle; every movement felt precarious.

after what felt like an eternity, the kitten was finally grabbed by its neck and slowly pulled out. it slipped back in, so attempts were made again for another ten minutes. the tension was palpable; i felt a mix of frustration and determination.

finally, with a silent prayer, even though my hand couldn’t reach last time, i gave it a shot again. i lifted up my sleeve, with bare hand, i just went for it. i could feel the top of her head, so close, and then i stretched my arm even more and pinched the kitten with my fingers and slowly pulled through the hole while screaming ‘i got it’, ‘i got it’. my family was relieved.

the kitten was very tiny and covered in dirt. her eyes were closed in hardened pus. no damage or blood anywhere. it tried to escape off my arms, using all its energy. of course, i got a good grasp of her. can’t believe how a small kitten (size of my palm) can still push for survival instinct. i felt a surge of relief and exhaustion.

she was placed in a box and taken inside, where it was cleaned with dish soap, dried off, and given a safe place away from the other cats. my wife provided food and water, along with a small litter box. she had to feed her manually. it was a long day, but the feeling of having rescued this tiny creature is deeply rewarding.

i’m so glad we were able to help her. she’s resting now and doing okay, and that brings a sense of peace after such an eventful afternoon.

Tips for Rescuing a Kitten Stuck in a Tough Place:

  • stay calm: the kitten will be scared, and your calmness can help.
  • assess the situation: figure out exactly where the kitten is and how it got stuck.
  • safety first: wear gloves to protect yourself from scratches or bites.
  • gentle approach: avoid sudden movements that could frighten the kitten further.
  • tools can help: a trash grabber, or even a long stick with tape on the end, can be useful for reaching and gently guiding the kitten.
  • call for help: if unable to safely rescue the kitten, contact a local animal shelter or rescue organization.
  • warmth and care: once rescued, provide the kitten with warmth, food, water, and a safe place to rest.

Mission successful.
